Introducing our first new wheel design for Rivian: RV1. We've had the opportunity to drive and experience many different electric vehicles over the years, and by far one of our favorites is the Rivian R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV platform. Rivian has absolutely knocked it out of the park - from the battery and motor technology, beautiful design, innovative layout, to Formula 1-derived hydraulic chassis control allowing more suspension flexibility than any truck before it. We love what Rivian is doing. 

Our enthusiasm for Rivian drove us to want to do what we have done for Tesla owners: make these vehicles even better. Just as with any vehicle, wheels are one of the most important parts of performance. We developed our RV1 wheels to improve every aspect relative the OEM wheels - strength, weight, aerodynamics/efficiency, and style. We started with a tried-and-true split 7 spoke design, which is inherently strong and light, and set about making it as aerodynamic as possible while allowing for adequate airflow to the brakes. 

When we started looking at solutions to make the wheels as aerodynamic as possible, covers that attach to outside of the wheel were part of that analysis. However, there are several downsides to that solution. Covers (aka hubcaps) are prone to falling off, degrade over time when made of plastic and can break easily, inevitably scratch the wheel's paint when taken on and off, trap dirt and debris, and add weight the wheel assembly without adding strength. Also, wheels that are designed to accept covers are compromised, as they need to have design features that add weight. Add to that additional cost, and the fact we've never seen a cover that looks great and - covers were out. So, instead we created RV1 to incorporate the advantages of a cover directly into the wheel, increasing aerodynamic efficiency, adding strength to the wheel itself and creating a very cool look, in our opinion. The outer 'ring' is perfectly flush with the outside face of the wheel, and being on the very outer edge of the wheel creates a flat surface for air to pass over where the effect of drag is greatest. The result is a wheel that has been optimized to the fullest - ready to take you and your Rivian from the highway to the trail and back again. Happy motoring :)
